Summary

From Rupi Kaur, the top ten Sunday Times bestselling author of milk and honey, comes her long-awaited second collection of poetry。 Illustrated by Kaur, the sun and her flowers is a journey of wilting, falling, rooting, rising and blooming。 It is a celebration of love in all its forms。

this is the recipe of life
said my mother
as she held me in her arms as i wept
think of those flowers you plant
in the garden each year
they will teach you
that people too
must wilt
fall
root
rise
in order to bloom

Praise for Sunday Times bestseller milk and honey:

‘Kaur is at the forefront of a poetry renaissance’ Observer

‘Kaur made her name with poems about love, life and grief。 They resonate hugely’ Sunday Times

‘Poems tackling feminism, love, trauma and healing in short lines as smooth as pop music’ New York Times

‘Caught the imagination of a large, atypical poetry audience…Kaur knows the good her poetry does: it saves lives’ Evening Standard

‘Breathing new life into poetry…It has people reading, and listening’ The Pool

I connected with some of her poems and even have excerpts written on post-it’s and journal entries。。。and then I found out about the blatant, unapologetic plagiarism from lesser known BIPOC women authors and that was rather upsetting。 I wanted so badly to like and support this author。 I still find some of her pieces touching。 But I am disappointed。 But here are examples from Megan’s Goodreads review highlighting the disgrace of Kaur’s theft:Example 1:“You must see no worth in yourself if you find I connected with some of her poems and even have excerpts written on post-it’s and journal entries。。。and then I found out about the blatant, unapologetic plagiarism from lesser known BIPOC women authors and that was rather upsetting。 I wanted so badly to like and support this author。 I still find some of her pieces touching。 But I am disappointed。 But here are examples from Megan’s Goodreads review highlighting the disgrace of Kaur’s theft:Example 1:“You must see no worth in yourself if you find me worth less after you’ve touched me as if your hands on my body magnify youand reduce me to nothing”- Rupi KaurSounds awfully familiar to my favorite quote by Kaija Sabbah:“ if you consider a woman less pure after you’ve touched her maybe you should take a look at your hands” Example 2: “she was music but he had his ears cut off” - Rupi Kaur“ she was like a piano in a country where everyone has had their hands cut off” - Angela Carter If anything, my takeaway and advice is to look into the authors mentioned in Megan’s review for the original material。 。。。more

I preferred this collection over Milk and Honey。 Some real beautiful stuff in here

I love every bit of it and the vulnerability。

The two book The Sun and her flowers and Milk and Honey were too popular back in 2017-18, especially among teenagers。 I understand why。 Even I used to read it。 But as I grew up, I realized, this book is useless。 I cringe hard on the fact that I even used to like this book。😂

Once again, this hit the mark。 It was honest about the real feelings we women feel。 I love anything Rupi Kaur writes, and this was no exception。 This has been on my TBR since it was published, and I'm so glad I chose to read it for the June reading prompt for the #readingwithmuffy 2021 monthly reading challenge。 Once again, this hit the mark。 It was honest about the real feelings we women feel。 I love anything Rupi Kaur writes, and this was no exception。 This has been on my TBR since it was published, and I'm so glad I chose to read it for the June reading prompt for the #readingwithmuffy 2021 monthly reading challenge。 。。。more

Good for those who are new to poetry/don’t read I would’ve given this two stars but decided on three because it had its moments。 It’s so redundantly cliché, though, that I had a difficult time finishing。 No new imagery or metaphors or viewpoints on topics。 It’s the epitome of tumblr/Instagram poetry。 I will say it’s accessible (easy to understand the point) and has pulled in new poetry readers, who will hopefully branch from here, so I don’t hate nor judge someone for reading her work。 The poems Good for those who are new to poetry/don’t read I would’ve given this two stars but decided on three because it had its moments。 It’s so redundantly cliché, though, that I had a difficult time finishing。 No new imagery or metaphors or viewpoints on topics。 It’s the epitome of tumblr/Instagram poetry。 I will say it’s accessible (easy to understand the point) and has pulled in new poetry readers, who will hopefully branch from here, so I don’t hate nor judge someone for reading her work。 The poems do feel finished as opposed to most poetry like this that mistakes simplicity for being easy to write well。 Rupi does what she does well; it’s just not my cup of tea nor nothing I would return to。 。。。more

Found this book in my reading room while Spring cleaning last year。 It is my daughter's; I think she bought it after her first year of college。 It blew my mind。 This book gave me a perspective I never experienced before on a WIDE range of social and personal topics。 The poems within evoke a wide range of emotions。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It was very difficult to put this book down。 Books of poems are never "finished"; revisiting poems already read as you evolve as a person will always reveal so Found this book in my reading room while Spring cleaning last year。 It is my daughter's; I think she bought it after her first year of college。 It blew my mind。 This book gave me a perspective I never experienced before on a WIDE range of social and personal topics。 The poems within evoke a wide range of emotions。 I thoroughly enjoyed it。 It was very difficult to put this book down。 Books of poems are never "finished"; revisiting poems already read as you evolve as a person will always reveal something new。 。。。more

Whats going through my mind? What in the world did I just read。 I read her other "novel" Milk and Honey, it was more sexual than I wanted to read。 This one however was tolerable。 Let me rephrase that, it wasn't as nauseating as the other book。 This one I actually enjoyed, there were some sexual components but not as frequent as in the other book。 Which made the book, in my opinion, better for me。 I wasn't uncomfortable as I was last time。 There are beautifully written lines that I would quote in Whats going through my mind?

I’ve never heard of Rupi Kaur until yesterday when I was going through my kindle app for a quick read。 I thought it looked interesting so I figured I’d give a shot, and I was in the mood for some poetry。 I’m a fan of the first 2 sections “wilting and falling”, the rest wasn’t for me really。 In regard to how it is written, Rupi’s prose flows extremely well and can be impactful。 There are several topics covered here such as love, sex, feminism, depression, self-isolation, rape, self-motivation, im I’ve never heard of Rupi Kaur until yesterday when I was going through my kindle app for a quick read。 I thought it looked interesting so I figured I’d give a shot, and I was in the mood for some poetry。 I’m a fan of the first 2 sections “wilting and falling”, the rest wasn’t for me really。 In regard to how it is written, Rupi’s prose flows extremely well and can be impactful。 There are several topics covered here such as love, sex, feminism, depression, self-isolation, rape, self-motivation, immigration, death, etc。 Overall I am a fan of the style and thought this was pretty good。 3 stars。 。。。more
